Chalkform: Calisthenics Coach
Privacy policy
The short version
- Camera video never leaves your phone and is never saved. The coach turns each frame into a stick figure on your phone, then throws the picture away.
- Your answers and your training records stay on your phone. That includes anything you tell the coach about your health.
- No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. We don't sell or share your information.
- Payments go through Google Play. We never see your card details.
Who we are
Chalkform is an independent app made by a sole trader in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia ("Chalkform", "we", "us"). This policy covers the Chalkform app and this website, chalkform.app. If you have a question about it, email chalkform@gmail.com.
The camera
Chalkform uses your phone's camera while you set up and during your sets, so the coach can see your body and count your reps.
- Each camera frame is processed on your phone by a pose model built into the app. The model finds points on your body (shoulders, hips, knees and so on), and the frame itself is then discarded.
- Video is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere. Not to us, and not to anyone else.
- The app keeps the stick figure of each rep (those body points, not a picture of you) on your phone, so it can show you a replay and explain a fix. You can delete your stick figures at any time in the app.
- The camera is off outside of setup and sets. You can also train without the camera; the coach then can't check your form.
What you tell the coach, and what it records
To build your plan, the app asks you questions such as your name, your goal, your age, height and weight, which best describes you, the equipment you have, which days and how long you can train, and whether anything about your health or joints needs working around. As you train it records your sets, reps, holds, how each rep looked, the coach's notes and your progress.
All of this is stored only on your phone, inside the app's private storage, and is used only by the coach to pick your moves, your pace and what it says to you. Health answers are sensitive, so we've designed Chalkform so they never leave your phone: they aren't sent to us, to a cloud service or to an AI service, and they aren't included in any backup we control.
We have turned off Android's automatic app backup for Chalkform, so this information also isn't copied to your Google account's backup. The downside: if you change phones, your history doesn't come with you yet.
What leaves your phone
The app itself doesn't send your information to us or anyone else. A few things involve other parties:
- Purchases. Memberships and free trials are handled by Google Play. Google processes your payment under Google's privacy policy. The app asks Google Play whether you have an active membership. We can see orders and their status in Google Play's developer tools, but never your card details.
- Google Play's own reports. Depending on your phone's settings, Google may collect crash and performance reports about apps, including Chalkform, and share summaries with developers. This is controlled by Google and your Android settings, not by the app.
- Emailing us. If you email us, we get your email address and whatever you write, and use them only to reply and to improve the app.
- Testers. If you join a test before launch, we use the Gmail address you give us to invite you through Google Play, and the feedback you send to fix the app. We delete tester email addresses when the test ends, unless you ask us to keep you on the list for future tests.
We don't sell your information, show ads, use advertising IDs, or track you across other apps and websites.
This website
chalkform.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts, and the fonts are served from this site. Like any website, our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for a short time to keep the site running and secure.
Keeping and deleting your information
- Your information stays on your phone until you delete it.
- You can delete your stick figures in the app, and uninstalling Chalkform removes everything it stored on your phone.
- Emails and tester details we hold can be deleted on request: email chalkform@gmail.com.
Security
Information the app stores is kept in Chalkform's private storage on your phone, which Android keeps separate from other apps. Because we don't hold copies on a server, there's no copy of it for us to lose. Keeping your phone locked protects it further.
Children
Chalkform is made for people aged 13 and over and isn't designed for children. If you're under 18, please use it with a parent's or guardian's permission. If you think a child under 13 has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Your rights
Because your information is on your phone, you can see and change it yourself in the app's You tab. You can ask us what information we hold about you (usually just emails), ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, email us first and we'll respond within 30 days. If that doesn't resolve it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Changes to this policy
If Chalkform ever starts sending any of your information off your phone, for example to back up your history to an account, we'll update this policy first and tell you in the app before it happens. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
